Our Five Hour Tour.

Day # 99: Beautiful Confusion. After we finished in Athens, we took a ferry to our next destination which was a beautiful little island called Aegina. We missed the speed ferry by literally only minutes, which at the time seemed unfortunate. So with no other options, we bought tickets for the next ferry which would take longer. To our surprise, the ferry arrived and looked like it could have been a small cruise line! It was so nice. It had a little shop to buy food, nice seating inside, and a nice deck to let your hair blow in the salty breeze. Missing the speed ferry was a fortunate mistake. Our island was the first stop. After about and hour or so, they announced that our stop was coming. Seeing as how the ferry was stopped for a long time when boarded, we didn't see the rush in getting downstairs to just wait to get off. So we took our time. Before we started heading down, the boat started backing up. People in our group started inquiring about the situation amongst ourselves. "Why is the boat backing away from the port?" "Does anybody else besides us seem even slightly alarmed?" "No". So finally someone asked the man behind a desk. As I looked on, he was shaking his head, no no no, then I could hear him say, "How many are you?" "6", she replied. Then a more disappointed and more abrupt head shake followed. Aghast is an appropriate description. "You will have to wait 5 stops!" he said still shaking his head. All the while a Greek lady had come to talk to our frazzled group, and started listing in broken english all of the islands we were going to be stopping at to port. It was going to be about 5 hours before we made it back to our island! What can you do? So we bought cookies and lounged around, enjoying our 'free' tour of a few Greek Islands! They were beautiful!!! One of these pictures is the 3rd island, and my favorite besides Aegina. Missing our port was fortunate mistake #2.
